Frequently Asked Questions

My mission at Harborlight Birth & Community Care is to provide compassionate, personalized support that empowers families to feel safe, informed, and confident throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum—creating a steady, grounding presence during one of life’s most transformative seasons.

Research shows that continuous support during labor leads to better outcomes and a more positive birth experience. Studies reviewed by the Cochrane Collaboration found that having a doula is associated with lower cesarean rates, fewer interventions, and shorter labors, along with higher overall satisfaction.

A doula provides steady emotional, physical, and informational support so you can feel confident and supported throughout your journey. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists also recognize continuous labor support as a key factor in improving birth outcomes, making a doula a valuable part of your care team.

Working with me means having a hands-on, fully present support person who is deeply invested in your experience. I take a proactive, intentional approach—getting to know you beyond the surface so I can truly understand your preferences, values, and vision for your birth and postpartum journey.

I’ll ask thoughtful questions, encourage open and consistent communication, and provide guidance every step of the way so you feel connected, supported, and never alone in the process. My goal is for you to feel informed, prepared, and confident—not just during labor, but long before it begins.

I believe preparation is key, so I may offer gentle “homework” such as mindset work, partner connection exercises, and education to help you feel ready and empowered going into your experience.

During labor, I am your steady presence—offering hands-on comfort, positioning support, grounding techniques, and continuous encouragement. I will advocate for your preferences, support your partner, and be your biggest cheerleader through every moment.

In the postpartum period, my role is not to take over, but to empower you. I will guide you as you learn your baby’s unique cues, support you in feeding and soothing, and help you build confidence in your parenting so you feel capable and supported as you find your rhythm.

I am a birth and postpartum doula trained through Harmony Doula Mentoring, a program rooted in hands-on, heart-centered, and deeply client-focused care. My training emphasizes emotional support, practical comfort techniques, and building genuine, meaningful connections with the families I serve.

My work is grounded in trauma-informed care, with a focus on creating a space where you feel safe, respected, heard, and fully supported in your choices.

I’ve also continued my education in childbirth and lactation support, as well as client advocacy, so you can feel informed, confident, and empowered throughout your experience. I am committed to ongoing learning and growth, continually expanding my knowledge and skills so I can better support and care for the families who trust me during such an important time.

I offer personalized, evidence-based lactation education, guidance, and hands-on support to help you feel confident feeding your baby. This includes preparing during pregnancy, understanding what’s normal in the early days, and supporting you as you find your rhythm postpartum.

My role is non-clinical and educational in nature. I am not a lactation consultant, lactation counselor, or medical provider, and I do not provide medical advice, diagnose, or treat medical conditions. While I provide lactation education, I do not function as a certified lactation educator within a clinical scope. Clients are encouraged to discuss any medical concerns with their healthcare provider. If concerns arise that require clinical assessment or care, I will provide trusted referrals to an IBCLC or qualified healthcare provider to ensure you and your baby receive the appropriate support.

I provide a calm, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where you can feel seen, heard, and supported during the postpartum period. Emotional well-being is just as important as physical recovery, and I take your experience seriously.

While I am not a mental health provider and do not diagnose or treat postpartum depression, I am attentive to changes in mood, emotional overwhelm, and signs that additional support may be needed. I offer gentle guidance, reassurance, and practical support while encouraging open conversations about how you’re feeling.

If concerns arise, I will always encourage you to speak with your healthcare provider and can provide trusted referrals to qualified mental health professionals who specialize in postpartum care. You deserve to feel supported on every level—not just physically, but emotionally as well.

No—your medical provider is responsible for clinical care. I work alongside your care team to support you, helping you understand your options and feel confident in your decisions.

The earlier, the better! Many families book in the second trimester, but I welcome inquiries at any stage of pregnancy depending on availability.

You are fully supported. My role is not to push an agenda, but to support your choices and help you feel informed and empowered no matter the path your birth takes.

Yes—building a genuine, trusting relationship is a meaningful part of the care I provide. I take the time to get to know you on a personal level—your preferences, your concerns, and what matters most to you—because I will be supporting you during one of the most important and vulnerable days of your life. My goal is for you to feel comfortable, seen, and truly supported every step of the way.

You can reach out through my contact form or email me directly at harborlightcommunity@yahoo.com to schedule a consultation. From there, we’ll connect, discuss your needs, and move forward with securing your spot.

Harborlight is rooted in compassionate, personalized care. I take the time to truly know my clients, creating a safe and supportive space where you feel seen, heard, and guided through one of life’s most transformative experiences.

Yes—I support all birth preferences and plans, including medicated, unmedicated, hospital, birth center, and home births. My role is to support you in the experience you desire, without judgment. For safety, I attend births where a licensed medical provider (such as a doctor or midwife) is present.

Yes. I proudly support individuals and families from all backgrounds, identities, and experiences. You deserve respectful, inclusive care.

Absolutely. I believe in supporting the entire family unit. I help partners feel confident, involved, and prepared so they can show up fully for you.

Yes. All clients are required to thoroughly read through and sign a contract prior to receiving services. This helps ensure that expectations, boundaries, and services are clearly understood and agreed upon by both parties.

At this time, I do not accept insurance. However, I can provide documentation or receipts upon request that you may be able to submit for reimbursement, depending on your provider.

When using Square, I'm happy to offer flexible payment options through Afterpay. Your service can be reserved as soon as your first payment—or full payment—is completed.

All payments are non-refundable, as your date is thoughtfully reserved just for you and your family. We truly appreciate your understanding and the trust you place in us.

I fully plan and prepare to attend every birth and intentionally limit the number of clients I take so I can offer each family dedicated, on-call support during their due window. This means you are not one of many—you are truly prioritized. I would rather serve fewer families deeply than many families halfway.

Because birth is unpredictable, there are rare circumstances (such as overlapping labors or emergencies) where I may be unable to be physically present.

If that happens, I will make every effort to ensure you are still supported. This may include reaching out to a trusted backup doula and offering virtual support if I am able.

To honor your experience, I also provide additional postpartum support and/or a credit toward future services if I miss your birth.

This structure exists to protect the level of care you receive. By reserving time specifically for you and not overbooking, I’m able to show up fully present, prepared, and committed to your experience.

Because that time is reserved exclusively for you—and support begins well before labor—all payments are non-refundable.

That’s completely okay. A consultation is a great way to explore what support could look like for you—no pressure, just a conversation.

I’d love to connect with you. Feel free to reach out to schedule a free consultation—I’m here to support you every step of the way.
